Source: Forbes
Last year During September, Apple launched iPhone 14 series with a usual hefty price tag. Those models went through a major upgrade in the year 2022. The “Dynamic Island” was their major update, it made the screen looks more modern and slimmer. But now the question is “What are they now trying to upgrade?”

There are some rumours and leaks going on. Let’s see what we got:

Models :

This year Apple is planning to sale four models of iPhone 15 in the same sizes as the iPhone 14 were. Just like the previous models, there will be one 6.1-inch iPhone which will be the standard iPhone 15, while one of the 6.7-inch iPhone will be an iPhone 15 plus. And the other 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch iPhone will be the higher end and more costly “pro” models.

Pricing on the iPhone 15 models is expected to be around $200 more than the previous model. Stay tuned for more updates as the launch event is almost here!

Design :

From a design perspective, the iPhone 15 lineup are expected to look the same this year like their previous models. Now, the entire iPhone 15 lineup will have the new notch, oh sorry the new island that we have I.e., the dynamic island which was introduced last year in the higher end models. And everything else, the screen size, the body dimension those are going to be same.

Instead, there might be a fresh look for volume buttons, and a new “action button” added to their models. This “action button” will come in a very handy, it can be customizable and quickly take you to different apps, just like the one on the Apple watch ultra from last year.

Apple may include titanium frames instead of stainless steel which will help reduce their weight to their pro models. It says that they may use grade 5 titanium which is also known as Ti-6Al-4V.

Face ID :

Apple is currently expected to use the same face ID from last year across all four iPhone 15 models. However, the analysts say that Apple is trying to build a fancy invisible or under display face ID system for future phones. Such a system would be a nice improvement allowing you to use your whole screen without an interruption for the front camera.

Camera Features :

Last year, the cameras of iPhone 14 went through a huge upgrade with the 48-megapixel camera sensors which works fantastically great and shows amazing results with high-definition detail. Now regular iPhone 15 models will have upgraded main camera with 48MP sensor. It would be a 27% increase in sensor size for the iPhone 15 over the 14 models.

This year the higher end iPhone 15 models are expected to have a major camera upgrade, especially when it comes to zooming. It's rumoured to include a powerful 5x or 10x periscope camera in the iPhone 15 pro max model. We have seen these periscope cameras for years on many top-end android phones, but it will be the first time to see it used on an iPhone. Apple analyst Ming-chi Kuo believes that Apple will implement 6x optical zoom technology when it adopts the periscope lens.

What’s Underneath :

The iPhone 15 lineup will be powered up by a new processor I.e. A17 bionic chipset which is expected to be the first chip to be made with the 3nm manufacturing process. This chipset could guarantee two things that will work amazingly I.e., both speed and efficiency. The benchmarks of A17 bionic chipset are remarkably better than last year’s A16 chipset which drove a lot of interest among people to upgrade their phone, suggesting that iPhone 15 could be the most popular of Apple’s upcoming releases. This A17 chipset is rumoured to come with a 6-core CPU same as previous, but it is also expected to come with a 6-core GPU which is basically an upgrade compared to a 5-core GPU in A16 chipset. All models might come up with an 8GB RAM and might start with the storage option of 256GB.

Interestingly, this year this might be the biggest update of them all. Because now there is a rumour that Apple might introduce type-c port to their iPhone 15 lineup instead of the lightning port as the European union has officially mandated that all phones will have to use USB-C by 2024. In those past years, the lightning port were such an inconvenient thing because the global markets were adapted to USB-C for better transfer speed and reliability. Those lightning cables tend to break often. It is rumoured that the pro and pro max models will support faster USB transfer speed with expectations for USB 3.2 (20Gbps) or even thunderbolt 3 (40Gbps) speeds. It’s also unclear that what kind of wire for USB-C cable will Apple provide in the box.

Battery :

The battery might support faster 35W charging, but the charger might not be included in the box. It is not clear whether Apple will introduce reverse wireless charging in the iPhone 15. Support for Qi2 wireless charging could also come to iPhone 15. It is also rumoured that it’ll match Magsafe’s 15W charging speeds. Another rumour also suggests that the iPhone 15 pro may get 15W wireless charging speeds from all third-party wireless chargers.

Display :

It is rumoured to have a 2500 nits of brightness level in the iPhone 15 pro max model and possibly the brightest in the whole segment which will make it so easy to see outdoors. There are new leaks which suggests that there might be smaller bezels around their display, with the iPhone 15 pro likely to have 1.55mm bezels compared to 2.1mm for the iPhone 14 pro. As for ProMotion 120Hz, this is expected to remain a feature reserved for the pro and pro max models only.

Release Date :

Apple has now officially confirmed that they are hosting an event to release their new iPhone 15 lineup on September 12 starting from 10am PT. This likely means that you’ll be able to buy the new iPhone 15 from September 22 because Apple typically releases phones 10 days after its product launch. Stay tuned for more updates.
